HAMPSTEAD, MD Arthur Clayton Rutledge, Sr. 87, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at his residence. He was the husband of Margaret E. "June" Rutledge, to whom he was married for 69 years. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 20901 Mt. Zion Rd., Freeland, Md. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors by the York County Veterans Honorguard. A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with an Order of the Eastern Star service beginning at 7 p.m. followed by Masonic Rites. He was born September 29, 1923, in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late John W. and Caroline (Mueller) Rutledge. Arthur was a United States Army Veteran having served in the European Theater where he was a squad leader and held the rank of Sergeant with the Army Corps of Engineers. He retired after 42 years as Vice President of Blumenthal-Khan Electric Company in Owings Mills, Md. Arthur was his wife's primary caretaker for over 10 years. Arthur was 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Charity Lodge #134, A.F. & A.M., Freeland. He was Past Grand Patron and Past Grand Treasurer of Parkton Chapter #42 Order of the Eastern Star. Arthur was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Freeland and Falls Road United Methodist Church in Sparks. He had a passion for antique cars and owned several and also enjoyed collecting antiques. Arthur was a founder and former director of the Antique Car Library in Hershey. He is survived by sons, Arthur C. Rutledge, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Shrewsbury, Jerry M. Rutledge and his companion, Nancy L. Gordon of Seattle, Wash., Timothy D. Rutledge and his wife, Maureen L. of Monkton, Md., and Cary J. Rutledge and his wife, Diane L. of Butler, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arthur's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
