Robert Gerald Shepherd, 76, of Arbutus, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Carroll Hospital Center, after a lengthy battle on a ventilator at Lorien in Mount Airy. Born Aug. 4, 1933, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edward and Pearl Dill Shepherd. He was a Navy veteran. He had retired from Local No. 24 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as an electrician. He enjoyed working in his garden and watching the birds. Surviving are children and spouses Bobby Shepherd, Kathy and Victor Zanti, Mark and Sue Shepherd, Robin and Terry Kuhnke and Tom and Shannon Shepherd; a brother, Richard Shepherd; a sister, Ruth Allison; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronnie Shepherd. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Hall, 1610 Old Sulphur Spring Road, Halethorpe.
