George Stanley Klapka, Sr. of Preston died at his residence on Wednesday, February 09, 2000. He was 75.
Born in Baltimore on January 1, 1925, he was the son of the late Stanislov and Anna Svejnoha Klapka. He served as an artillery gunner for the Army Air Force 874th Bomb Squadron, 498th Bomb Guard, 20th Air Force from 1943-46. In 1948, he married the former Nancy J. Poggi of Preston, and they made their home in Baltimore until moving to Annapolis in 1962. He worked as an electrician for the Truland Organization in Arlington, VA for 35 years. Following his retirement in 1987, he moved to Queenstown until moving to Preston in June 1999.
Mr. Klapka was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 24 in Baltimore.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George S. Klapka, Jr. of Preston; two daughters, Nancy Lee Harrington of Ridgely and Mary Ann Moreland of Culpepper, VA; a sister, Anna Wells of Denton; and a grandson. A sister, Marie Shanta, is deceased.
